SONOGRAPHY
A diagnostic medical image is created using the ultrasound sonogram. The procedure is painless and noninvasive and uses sound waves to detect changes in the size, shape, density and disease patterns of tissues. It’s commonly used to evaluate the heart, liver, pancreas, kidneys, intestine, spleen, prostate, uterus, adrenal glands and bladder.
Invasive exploratory surgical procedures are often avoided by using ultrasound testing. Sedation is generally not required.
